Switch NDIS Plan Managers
Not happy with your current Plan Manager? You can switch at any time \u2014 no penalty, no funding loss, no new NDIS plan required. This guide walks you through every step.
Good to know before you start
Switching Plan Managers is your right under the NDIS. There is no mandatory notice period, no exit fee, and no impact on your funding. The entire process usually takes less than two weeks.
Decide you want to switch
You have the right to change Plan Managers at any time during your NDIS plan. Common reasons include slow invoice processing, poor communication, lack of budget visibility, or simply wanting a better service. You do not need approval from the NDIA or a new plan.
Choose your new Plan Manager
Research and compare Plan Managers before making the move. Look for NDIS registration (group 0127), fast invoice turnaround, a budget tracking portal, and responsive communication. MyCareFinders features MyMoney by Local Knowledge Pty Ltd, which meets all five criteria of a good Plan Manager.
Contact your new Plan Manager
Reach out to your chosen Plan Manager (you can request a free callback from MyMoney through MyCareFinders). They will walk you through their onboarding process and prepare a new service agreement for you to sign.
Notify your current Plan Manager
Send a brief written notice (email is fine) to your current Plan Manager letting them know you are switching. There is no mandatory notice period in the NDIS rules, but giving a few days helps ensure a smooth handover of any invoices in progress.
Sign the new service agreement
Review and sign the service agreement with your new Plan Manager. Once signed, they will register with the NDIA portal as your Plan Manager and begin processing your invoices from the next billing cycle.
Confirm the handover
Check that your new Plan Manager has access to your plan in the NDIA portal and is receiving provider invoices. Confirm that any outstanding invoices with your old Plan Manager have been processed. You should see your budget and transactions in your new Plan Manager's portal within a few days.

Frequently asked questions about switching Plan Managers
Answers sourced from the NDIA Operational Guidelines.
Can I switch NDIS Plan Managers at any time?
Yes. You can change Plan Managers at any time without needing a new NDIS plan or approval from the NDIA. There is no lock-in contract and no penalty for switching. You keep all your funding.
Will I lose any NDIS funding if I switch Plan Managers?
No. Switching Plan Managers does not affect your NDIS funding in any way. Your plan budget, support categories, and plan end date all stay the same. The new Plan Manager simply takes over the financial administration.
How long does it take to switch Plan Managers?
The process usually takes a few business days. Once you sign the new service agreement, your new Plan Manager registers in the NDIA portal and begins processing invoices. Most transitions happen within one to two weeks, including final processing of any invoices with the old Plan Manager.
Do I need to tell the NDIA that I am switching?
You do not need to formally notify the NDIA yourself. Your new Plan Manager will register as your Plan Manager in the NDIA portal, which updates the system automatically. However, you do need to notify your current Plan Manager in writing (a short email is sufficient).
What happens to invoices that are still being processed?
Your outgoing Plan Manager should finish processing any invoices they have already received. It is a good idea to check with them that all outstanding invoices are cleared before the handover is complete. Your new Plan Manager will handle all invoices from the transition date onwards.
