Why You Can Switch & What to Know First

As an NDIS participant, you have the right to change your plan manager at any time during your plan period. This is a core principle of participant choice and control under the NDIS Act 2013. You don't need to wait for your plan review—you can make the switch whenever you feel another provider might better meet your needs.

Before starting the process, there are three crucial things to confirm:

  1. Your current funding type: Check your NDIS plan to see if you have 'Plan Management' as a stated support. This appears in your Capacity Building budget.
  2. Your current arrangement: Are you with an agency-managed, plan-managed, or self-managed provider? This determines your next steps.
  3. Available funding: Ensure you have sufficient plan management funds remaining. This support typically appears as 'Improved Life Choices' in your plan.

Remember: Switching plan managers is completely free. NDIS plan management is a no-cost support to participants—the NDIA pays your plan manager directly from administrative funds, not from your core supports budget.
