What Is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia's national scheme for people with a significant and permanent disability. Launched in 2013, it now supports over 600,000 participants across the country.

Unlike older block-funding models, the NDIS gives you choice and control over the supports and services you receive. Your funding is based on your individual goals — not a one-size-fits-all formula.

The NDIS is managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), a Commonwealth Government agency. They assess applications, create plans, and manage the overall scheme.
