The 10-Minute Pre-Call Verification

Before you pick up the phone, a few quick checks can save you hours of wasted time. This is your minimum viable check to confirm a provider is even a potential fit.

Start with the basics:

  • Registration: Are they an NDIS registered provider? This is mandatory for some supports (like behaviour support or restrictive practices). For others, you can use registered or unregistered providers if you are plan-managed or self-managed.
  • NDIS Practice: Do they understand the NDIS? Look for mentions of goal-based planning, service agreements, and the NDIS Code of Conduct on their website or profile.
  • Specialties & Service Boundaries: Do they list your specific support needs (e.g., 'autism', 'physical disability', 'speech pathology for adults')? Check their service area—do they travel to your location?
  • Availability: Is there any indication of current waitlists or capacity? While not always listed, a note about 'limited availability' can be a clue.

For specific supports, verify extra details. For assistive technology, check if they handle assessments and quotes. For behaviour support, ensure practitioners are NDIS-approved. For transport, confirm vehicle accessibility.
