Plan Management Done Right: Your Money Flow Walkthrough & Pre-Sign Checklist
Understand the day-to-day process and ask the right questions before you choose a plan manager.
Two Paths Your Funding Can Take
Understanding how money flows is key to a stress-free NDIS experience. Let's compare the two main paths.
Self-Managed Path: You pay your provider directly from your own money. You then claim that expense back from the NDIS portal using your participant portal. The NDIS will reimburse you, usually within a few business days. This path gives you the most choice of providers but requires you to have upfront cash and handle all the admin.
Plan-Managed Path: This is where a registered plan manager works for you. After you receive a support, your provider sends an invoice directly to your plan manager. Your plan manager checks it against your NDIS plan and pays the provider from your NDIS funds. You don't use your own money. This path opens up your choices to both NDIS-registered and non-registered providers, while your plan manager handles the complex payment paperwork.
Choosing plan management means you get the flexibility of self-management without the financial and administrative burden.
