What service fees can mean in plan management

When you choose plan management, you might see different “service fees” charged by the plan manager or by the provider you use. These fees can affect what’s available in your plan for supports, even if the support itself is approved. Plan management fees are usually separate from the price of your supports, but they still come from your funding or your plan-managed budget in some way, depending on how your arrangement is set up.

In plan-managed setups, your supports are paid through your plan manager (for example, MyMoney NDIS at www.planmanager.net.au). Your plan manager may charge an administration fee and the provider may charge service delivery costs. It’s normal to have some fees for administration, but it’s not normal to be surprised by extra charges that aren’t clearly explained, or that reduce your available funding without your consent. A good provider and plan manager should clearly show: what the fee is for, how it’s calculated, and when you’ll be charged.

To work out what’s “normal vs not”, check your quotes and statements for patterns like these:

  • Clear breakdown: fees are listed separately from support costs (not bundled without explanation).
  • Reasonable basis: fees relate to administration, processing, or specific service requirements.
  • No hidden extras: you’re not asked to pay additional costs to access an NDIS support that should be funded through your plan.
  • Transparent amounts: you know the dollar amount or percentage before services start.

Key takeaway: If you can’t clearly explain the fee (what it covers and why), ask for the calculation method before you agree.

If you’re unsure whether a fee is reasonable, you can compare options. My Care Finders can help you look at different plan management and provider approaches so you can understand what you’re paying for, spot mismatches, and choose the most transparent pathway for your plan. When comparing, also ask each provider to show how your funding is used in your plan-managed invoices and whether MyMoney NDIS processes anything differently for your situation.
