Step 1: From Your Goals to the Right Support Category

Before you even start searching, it's crucial to know what kind of support you're looking for and where the funding comes from in your plan. This stops you from accidentally booking a service you can't pay for.

First, look at your NDIS plan. It's divided into budgets like Core Supports and Capacity Building Supports. Core Supports are for your everyday activities and help you work towards your goals. This includes things like assistance with daily personal activities, community access, and transport. Capacity Building Supports are for building your independence and skills long-term, like finding a job, improving relationships, or managing your home.

When you speak to a potential provider, ask them: "Which NDIS support category does this service fall under?" A good provider will know the answer. For example, a support worker helping you shower is under "Assistance with Daily Personal Activities" in Core Supports. A therapist helping you build social skills might be under "Improved Daily Living Skills" in Capacity Building. Matching the service to the correct budget is your first check for plan-compatibility.
