NDIS Plan Review Action Plan: Your First 30 Days After Getting Results
Learn what to do next, how to secure your supports, and implement changes successfully
Understanding Your Review Outcome and Avoiding Common Mistakes
Receiving your NDIS plan review outcome can feel overwhelming. Your first step is to carefully read your new plan and the accompanying letter from the NDIA. Compare it line-by-line with your previous plan. Look for changes in funding amounts, the stated supports, and most importantly, how your goals are described. A subtle change in wording about your functional capacity can significantly impact your funding.
The most common mistakes participants make after a review are:
- Assuming Nothing Can Be Changed: Many believe the decision is final. You have the right to request a review of a decision you believe is incorrect.
- Not Gathering Contemporary Evidence: Relying on old reports is a top reason for reduced funding. The NDIA needs current information about your functional needs and progress.
- Missing Deadlines: You typically have 3 months (90 days) from receiving your plan to request an internal review of a decision. Mark this date immediately.
- Not Linking Supports to Goals: Every support in your plan should be directly linked to a stated goal. If this connection isn't clear, it's a risk area.
Prevent these errors by taking methodical action in the first 30 days. Start by mapping each change to the relevant support category (Core, Capacity Building, or Capital) and confirm it still aligns with your goals and daily needs.
