NDIS Plan-Managed Switching—Do It Right the First Time
Master the written notice, timing, and proof workflow to switch plan managers seamlessly
When Can You Request a Plan Manager Change?
Understanding when you can request a change is crucial for a smooth switch. The NDIS allows participants to change plan managers at several key points, and the process is generally straightforward if you follow the rules.
At Plan Start or Renewal: This is the simplest time to request a change. When your new plan is approved, you can nominate a new plan manager directly. Your request is typically approved automatically as part of the plan activation process.
During Your Current Plan: You can also request a change at any point during your plan period. The NDIA will usually approve this if you provide a clear written request. Common reasons that trigger approval include wanting better service, needing more local support, or seeking a provider with specialised expertise.
The key is that the NDIS supports participant choice and control. You don't need a complicated reason—simply wanting to change is valid. However, the process relies on you providing the correct written notice to both the NDIA and your current plan manager to ensure a clean handover.
