NDIS Help Guide: Support Coordination, Provider Search or Capacity Building?
A simple decision tree to find the right help for your specific NDIS situation
Understanding the Three Key Help Types
Before using the decision tree, it's important to understand what each service does. The NDIS offers different types of funded support for different needs.
Support Coordination
This is a funded capacity building support that helps you implement your NDIS plan. A Support Coordinator works with you to understand your plan, connect you with providers, and coordinate your services. They help you build skills to use your plan effectively.
Provider-Search Assistance
This is often provided by organisations like MyCareFinders or directly by providers. It focuses specifically on finding and connecting you with suitable service providers. They help you search their databases, make initial contact, and arrange meetings. This service is usually free and doesn't require NDIS funding.
Capacity Building Supports
These are funded supports in your plan designed to increase your skills and independence. They include things like training in daily living skills, employment support, or therapy to build capability. These are delivered by qualified providers.
Remember: Support Coordination is funded from your Capacity Building budget, while Provider-Search Assistance is typically a free service, and other Capacity Building supports are separate funded services.
