Before the Visit: Your Essential Pre-Session Questions

The time between your plan approval and your first support session is crucial. Before anyone arrives at your door, you have the right to get clear answers. This 'consent-to-start' process protects you and ensures you're in control. Start by asking your chosen provider these exact questions:

  • Who is coming? Get the name and role of the support worker. Will it be the same person each time?
  • What will we do? Ask for a clear description of the planned activities for this first session.
  • How long will the session be? Confirm the start and finish times.
  • Where do my notes and records go? Understand how they store your personal information and who can access it.
  • How will we communicate? Will they call, text, or use an app? How can you give feedback or raise concerns?

Getting these answers in writing (e.g., via email) creates a record. A reputable provider will be happy to answer and will not pressure you to start before you feel ready.
