The Key Players: Who Does What in Your Plan Management Team?

Understanding the distinct roles in plan management helps everything run smoothly. Think of it as a team where everyone has a specific job:

  • You, the Participant: You are the decision-maker. You choose your providers, approve the supports you receive, and authorise your plan manager to pay invoices on your behalf. Your role is to use your funds to pursue your goals.
  • Your Plan Manager: They are your financial administrator. A registered plan management provider takes care of paying your support providers, tracking your budget, and providing regular statements. They handle all the paperwork with the NDIS portal but do not choose your supports for you.
  • Your Support Providers: These are the therapists, support workers, or companies that deliver your funded supports. They provide the service, then send an invoice to your plan manager for payment.

The golden rule is separation of powers: you control the what and who, your plan manager handles the how of payment, and your providers deliver the supports. This structure gives you choice and control while removing financial admin burdens.
