What Your Support Coordinator Can (and Can't) Do

Your support coordinator is a key ally in your NDIS journey. It’s important to start with a clear understanding of their role so you can work together effectively. Their job is to help you implement your plan and connect you with services that suit your needs.

A support coordinator can realistically:

  • Help you understand your NDIS plan and funding.
  • Find and connect you with suitable service providers.
  • Negotiate service agreements with providers on your behalf.
  • Help you build your skills and confidence to manage your supports.
  • Monitor your plan budgets and support you to get the most from your funding.
  • Assist you in preparing for your plan review.

A support coordinator cannot:

  • Make decisions for you. All choices must be participant-led.
  • Provide direct therapy, support work, or other funded core supports.
  • Guarantee that a specific provider will have availability.
  • Manage your plan finances (this is the role of a plan manager).
  • Advocate for changes to NDIS legislation or policy at a systemic level.

A great coordinator works with you, not for you. They should empower you to make informed choices and build your independence.
