Understanding Your Support Coordinator's Role

When your NDIS plan includes support coordination, it's vital to know exactly what this funding is for. A Support Coordinator is a partner who helps you understand and use your plan. They connect you with providers, negotiate services, and build your confidence to navigate the NDIS.

It's different from Capacity Building Supports, which are therapeutic or training services (like occupational therapy) that build your skills. It's also distinct from Care Management, which is often a clinical or daily support role outside the NDIS framework. Your support coordinator's primary job is to implement the plan you have, not to provide therapy or direct care.

From the moment your plan is approved, your support coordinator should spring into action. You should expect a prompt introductory call to schedule a first meeting. Their immediate focus is on understanding your goals, your current situation, and any urgent risks or barriers that need addressing. This sets the foundation for a productive relationship.
