What Exactly is Support Coordination? (And What It Isn't)

Your NDIS plan can feel complex, and that's where a Support Coordinator comes in. Think of them as your dedicated NDIS expert and connection builder. Their core job is to help you understand your plan, find the right providers, and set up your supports so you can work towards your goals.

It's important to know what Support Coordination isn't. It is not:

  • Ongoing daily care management: They don't provide personal care, therapy, or direct support. That's the role of your other funded supports.
  • A replacement for capacity building: While they help you build skills, their main focus is on setting up the services that will build your capacity (like finding a good occupational therapist).
  • An advocate who speaks for you: They help you speak for yourself by preparing you for meetings and explaining your options.

Your coordinator is funded under a separate budget in your plan called Capacity Building - Support Coordination. Their success is measured by how well your supports are implemented and how confident you become in managing your plan.
