Untangling the Terms: What Do These Services Actually Do?

Understanding the different types of help available is your first step to using your NDIS plan effectively. Here are plain-English definitions:

Support Coordination

A Support Coordinator helps you implement your plan. Their day-to-day work involves helping you find and connect with providers, negotiate service agreements, and solve problems when things don't go as planned. They are a connector and a navigator, helping you build a team of supports that works for you.

Capacity Building Supports

This isn't a job title, but a category of funding in your plan aimed at increasing your skills and independence. It pays for services like therapy, training, or coaching to help you manage aspects of your own life. For example, a Capacity Building support might help you learn to use public transport, manage your budget, or improve your social skills.

Care Management

This is a term sometimes used in the broader health and aged care market. In an NDIS context, it often refers to a more intensive, clinical case management role, typically for participants with very complex needs. It's less common and usually involves closer oversight of a care team, often by a nurse or allied health professional.
