Understanding Your Three Main Options

Your NDIS plan is designed to help you achieve your goals, but it can be hard to know who you need to help you do it. These three roles are often confused, but they focus on different things. Knowing the difference is the first step to getting the right help.

Support Coordination is about navigating the system and connecting you with services. A Support Coordinator helps you understand your plan, find and book providers, and solve problems when they arise. Their main goal is to help you use your funded supports effectively. They are your guide through the NDIS world.

Capacity Building Supports are about developing your skills. This isn't a person, but a category of funding for services that help you gain independence. Think of therapy to improve daily living skills, training to manage your budget, or support to find and keep a job. The outcome is you becoming more skilled and independent in a specific area of your life.

Care Management (often provided by a Support Coordinator under 'Coordination of Supports') involves the ongoing organisation and oversight of your services. This includes rostering support workers, managing service agreements, checking invoices, and ensuring everything runs smoothly day-to-day. The outcome is reliable, consistent, and well-managed support in your daily life.
