Your Budget Breakdown: Which Funds Can Be Plan-Managed?

Plan management gives you flexibility and control over how you use your NDIS funding. To make payments work smoothly, it helps to first understand which parts of your plan are typically managed by a plan manager.

In a plan-managed plan, your funding is divided into three support budgets:

  • Core Supports: This is your everyday support budget. It covers things like assistance with daily life, transport, consumables, and social and community participation. Most Core Supports funding can be plan-managed.
  • Capacity Building Supports: This budget is for supports that help you build skills and independence. It includes categories like support coordination, improved daily living skills, finding and keeping a job, and improved health and wellbeing. All Capacity Building funding is typically plan-managed.
  • Capital Supports: This covers higher-cost items like assistive technology (e.g., a wheelchair) and home modifications. These funds are usually managed by the NDIA directly, but sometimes specific items can be plan-managed if approved in your plan.

Your plan manager uses the funds in your Core and Capacity Building budgets to pay your providers. Your My NDIS portal or your plan manager's portal (like MyMoney) will show you exactly how much funding you have in each category. Knowing this helps you book services with confidence.
