Clarifying the Roles: Coordination, Management, and Building Capacity

Understanding the different NDIS supports can be confusing. Think of them as a team with different, complementary jobs. Plan Management handles the financial side. Your plan manager pays your providers, tracks your budget, and provides financial statements. They are your financial admin expert.

Support Coordination is the logistical expert who connects the dots. Their role is to help you understand your plan, find and connect with the right service providers, negotiate service agreements, and ensure the supports in your plan are put into action. They help you build the team.

Capacity Building Supports (like improved daily living skills) are the services you receive to build your own skills and independence. Support Coordination is actually a capacity building support itself, designed to help you navigate the system. The key difference is that coordination focuses on setting up and maintaining your support ecosystem, while other capacity building supports focus on direct skill development. A good coordinator helps you use all your funding effectively.
