NDIS Plan Management Demystified: Your Funding Flow Explained
A clear, step-by-step guide from your approved budget to provider payments
Your Plan Manager's Role: The Financial Conductor
Think of your NDIS plan manager as the financial conductor for your support funding. Once your plan is approved, they step in to handle the money side of things, so you can focus on receiving your supports. Their core job is to pay your service providers on your behalf, using the funding in your NDIS plan.
They do this by receiving invoices from your providers, checking them against NDIS rules and your plan budgets, and then processing the payment. This includes verifying that the support is included in your plan, the provider is correctly registered, and the claim details (like dates and support item numbers) are accurate. A good plan manager also gives you regular statements, so you can see exactly how your budget is being used and how much funding you have left. This transparency is key to avoiding surprises and staying in control.
Importantly, this is separate from a Support Coordinator's role. While a Support Coordinator helps you find providers and understand your plan, the Plan Manager focuses purely on the financial transactions and reporting. Having a plan manager means you can use both registered and non-registered NDIS providers, giving you more choice.
