Your NDIS Plan Budget Map Explained: Read Spending, Spot Shortfalls & Know What to Do
A jargon-free guide to understanding your funding, tracking your supports, and confidently managing your plan.
Finding Your Budget & Understanding the Key Terms
Your NDIS plan is a roadmap for your supports, and the budget is the fuel that makes the journey possible. You'll usually find your budget in a section called 'My Supports' or 'Funding Summary' in your plan document. It's broken down into categories, which are like different wallets for different types of support.
Here are the main categories you'll see:
- Core Supports: This is your flexible funding for everyday needs. It often covers things like assistance with daily life, social and community participation, transport, and consumables (everyday items you need because of your disability).
- Capacity Building Supports: This funding is for services that help you build skills and independence over time, like therapy, training, or finding a job. The money in these categories is usually allocated to specific support purposes.
- Capital Supports: This is for bigger, one-off items like assistive technology (equipment) or home modifications.
If your funds are plan managed, you'll see 'Plan Managed' next to the category. This means your plan manager pays your providers from that budget on your behalf.
