NDIS Plan Activation & First 30 Days: Your Essential Action Guide
Navigate the crucial first steps after approval and avoid common delays to get your supports started smoothly.
Understanding 'Plan Approved' vs 'Supports Can Start'
First, let's clarify a common point of confusion. When you receive your plan approval letter from the NDIA, it means your funding and goals are officially confirmed. However, this is different from your supports being ready to begin.
Your supports can only start after your plan has been 'activated' in the NDIS computer system, called the myplace portal. The NDIA aims to activate plans within 24 to 48 hours of approval, but it can sometimes take a few business days. You'll know your plan is active when you can see the full details in your myplace participant portal.
Before any provider can claim payment for a service, they must see your active plan in the portal. Trying to book services before activation is a top cause of frustration and delays. Your first action should be to log into the myplace portal to confirm your plan is live and review all your funding categories and stated goals.
Remember, your plan start date is listed in your approval letter. You can only use funding for supports delivered on or after that date, not before. Knowing this timeline helps you schedule your first provider meetings effectively.
