Your NDIS Budget: The Core Components Explained
Think of your NDIS plan budget as your funding dashboard. It's split into three main support categories, each with a specific purpose. Understanding these is the first step to taking control.
Core Supports: This is your flexible funding for everyday needs. It covers things like help with daily personal activities, transport to work or appointments, and consumables like continence aids. For example, if your plan includes funding for assistance with showering, this comes from your Core budget.
Capacity Building Supports: This funding is for building your skills and independence to reach your goals. It's less flexible than Core and is allocated to specific support categories like 'Improved Daily Living' for therapy, or 'Finding and Keeping a Job' for employment support. You can't use Capacity Building funds for Core supports.
Capital Supports: This is for higher-cost, one-off items like assistive technology (a new wheelchair or communication device) or home modifications (a ramp or bathroom rails). These usually require quotes and specific approval within your plan.
By knowing which category a support belongs to, you can better track your spending and ensure you're using your funds as intended.
