Your NDIS Budget: The Three Main Buckets
When your NDIS plan is approved, your funding is divided into three main support budgets: Core, Capacity Building, and Capital. Think of them as three separate buckets of money for different purposes.
Core Supports are for your everyday needs and activities. This budget is the most flexible and covers things like:
- Support workers to help with personal care or community access.
- Consumables like continence aids or low-cost assistive technology.
- Help with household tasks like cleaning or gardening.
Capacity Building Supports are for building your skills and independence. This money is allocated to specific categories and can't be moved around. It funds:
- Therapies like occupational therapy, physiotherapy, or speech pathology.
- Support coordination to help you use your plan.
- Training for employment or improved daily living skills.
Capital Supports are for one-off, higher-cost items. This includes:
- Assistive Technology like wheelchairs, communication devices, or vehicle modifications.
- Home Modifications such as bathroom rails or ramp installations.
Understanding which bucket pays for what is the first step to smart spending.
