Translating Your Plan into Real-World Supports

Your NDIS plan document can feel full of jargon. The first step to using it well is turning those budget categories into the real supports you need. Think of it as a translation exercise.

For example, Core Supports cover your everyday needs. This includes support workers for personal care or community access, consumables like incontinence aids, and assistance with social and community participation. A support worker helping you go to the shops comes from your Core budget.

Capacity Building Supports are for skill development. This is where you'll find funding for therapies like occupational therapy or speech pathology, support coordination to help you manage your plan, and training to build your independence. A weekly session with a psychologist to build coping strategies is a Capacity Building support.

Capital Supports are for one-off items like assistive technology (a new wheelchair or communication device) or home modifications (a ramp or bathroom rails). These are usually quoted and approved separately.

By listing your regular supports and matching them to the correct category, you create a clear picture of what your funding is for. This is the foundation of your claims calendar.
