Your Plan's Building Blocks: Core, Capacity Building & Capital

Think of your NDIS plan budget as being split into three main 'pots' of money, each with a different purpose. Understanding these is your first step to using your plan effectively.

Core Supports

This is your everyday support budget. It covers the help you need to live your daily life and pursue your goals. Imagine it includes things like:

  • Assistance with Daily Life: Help with personal care, household tasks, or meal preparation.
  • Transport: Funding to help you get to work, appointments, or community activities.
  • Consumables: Everyday items like continence products, nutritional supplements, or low-cost assistive technology.

Capacity Building Supports

This budget is for 'skill-building' supports and services designed to increase your independence over time. It's an investment in your future abilities. Examples include:

  • Therapy: Occupational therapy, physiotherapy, or speech therapy.
  • Support Coordination: Help to understand and implement your plan.
  • Employment or Social & Community Participation: Training and support to find a job or join in community life.

Capital Supports

This is for bigger, one-off items. It's often split into two parts:

  • Assistive Technology: Equipment like a wheelchair, communication device, or custom bed.
  • Home Modifications: Changes to your home like a ramp or bathroom alterations.
