Understanding Your NDIS Budget Categories

When participants talk about "my budget," they're usually referring to the different support categories in their NDIS plan. Think of these categories like separate wallets for different types of support. Each wallet has its own rules about what you can spend the money on.

Here's a practical way to understand them:

  • Therapy sessions usually come from your Improved Daily Living budget (Capacity Building)
  • Assistive technology like wheelchairs or communication devices comes from Assistive Technology (Capital)
  • Support worker assistance with daily activities typically comes from Core Supports
  • Home modifications come from Home Modifications (Capital)

Your plan manager or support coordinator can help you understand exactly which category each support fits into. This is important because money from one category generally can't be used for supports from another category without approval.

Remember: Your NDIS funding is meant to help you pursue your goals, so always consider how a support connects to what you want to achieve.
