What Is Assistive Technology?

Assistive Technology (AT) is any device, equipment, or system that helps you do things you would otherwise find difficult. Under the NDIS, AT ranges from simple everyday items to complex specialised equipment:

  • Low-cost AT (under $1,500) — shower chairs, grab rails, communication apps, modified cutlery
  • Mid-cost AT ($1,500-$15,000) — standard wheelchairs, hearing aids, specialised software
  • High-cost AT (over $15,000) — powered wheelchairs, vehicle modifications, complex communication devices

AT is funded under your Capital Supports budget (for higher-cost items) or Core Consumables (for low-cost items).
