When Should You Activate Your Support Coordination?

Your NDIS plan includes support coordination funding for a reason: to help you navigate the system and get the most from your supports. Knowing the right time to use this service is the first step to success. Think of it as your strategic guide for complex situations.

You should strongly consider engaging a support coordinator when:

  • Your plan is new or has significantly changed: Starting a fresh plan can be overwhelming. A coordinator helps you understand your funded supports, find new providers, and set everything up smoothly.
  • Your support needs are complex: If you require multiple, specialised services (like therapy, personal care, and assistive technology), a coordinator helps manage the different providers and ensures they work together effectively.
  • You are working with several providers: Juggling appointments, agreements, and communication between multiple organisations is a big job. A coordinator can be the central point of contact.
  • Your life circumstances are changing: Moving house, changing jobs, or a shift in your health needs are all times when your support setup might need to change. A coordinator can help you adapt your supports to these new situations.

Activating coordination early in your plan period gives you and your coordinator the best chance to build a strong, sustainable support network that lasts.
